Rodney Reid
Rodney Reid
Rodney C. Reid is an inspiring Motivational Speaker and Life Coach, in pursuit of extending his “New Hand” at life to men and youth like his “former” self.
Prior to that dreadful night in Atlanta, Georgia when he was shot several times in 2007, Rodney had experienced life on the dark side. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 18th, eldest son and namesake of his father, a brick mason, and his mother who was a homemaker; while completing her college courses. Rodney and his family appeared to function normally, but it would be due to this union, Rodney would witness his first glimpse of violence. At the mere age of five he and his younger brother watched his mother endure physical abuse at the hand of her husband, their father. As the abuse escalated beyond control his grandparents tried to step in to protect their daughter and grandchildren, to become victims of even further irrational and uncontrollable violence themselves. During the last altercation in this marriage Rodney and his entire family almost lost their lives. As his father went on a wrathful rampage and begin to fire rounds at his wife, children and in-laws. The shooting spree ended fatally. A single bullet aimed for Rodney’s mom missed her and Rodney and ended up taking the life of his grandmother right before their eyes.
This day would change their family’s lives drastically forever. His Grandfather became widowed, his father went on to serve an 8 year prison term and his mother became a single parent. Rodney and his brother become young men being raised in a fatherless home, by a single woman.
Being a young man without a father, forced Rodney to fill that void by seeking a sense of manhood and comradery outside of his home. This Kinship he formed would lead him into a life of selling drugs and Gang affiliation. While living this life Rodney would experience having more money than a young man could dream of, and all the luxuries life could offer. These things would serve to keep him blinded until he was forced to serve a 7 year federal prison sentence. That prison term Rodney credits as being one of the most instructional experiences of his life. Being a very tenacious and astute individual Rodney was determined to return to the morals and principles instilled in him by his mother and aunt whom he honors for keeping him uplifted in prayer in the midst of his transgressions. The time he spent separated from his children would also heighten Rodney’s desire to change his thinking, and he did,one prayer and one book at a time.
On September 5th 2010, Rodney furthered his walk with God and his will and purpose by giving his heartfelt testimony to thousands of people at New Birth Church. This would change Rodney’s life. With the declining moral amongst our young people today, Rodney is determined to help make a difference. He does not want to see another young person experience the anxieties a life of crime can bring. By establishing the Big Homies Mentoring program, In Atlanta Georgia, He will be able to mentor and motivate the youth to pursue a life of excellence. This is a grass roots initiative focused on taking “God” to the streets. Helping our youth deal with life’s obstacles, as well as challenging them to succeed.
The Rodney Reid Project is about extending a “New Hand” to every man, woman, and child…….
